A coupling connects

Put simply, a coupling is nothing more than a connection between two shafts. But shaft couplings can do even more – they transmit the torque, can compensate and protect axial, lateral and angular shaft displacements and vibrations, selectively, expensive machine parts against overload.

Torque transmission

Depending on the application, R + W advises on the suitable coupling type. The amount of torque that is to be transmitted plays a major role here. Metal bellows couplings can transmit Newton meters (the unit of measurement for torque) in the range from 2 to 10,000. SERVOMAX® elastomer couplings, on the other hand, work from 0.5 to 25,000 Nm.
